Caution, Meet Wind…

7 Mar

Even though my dare/challenges only officially start tomorrow, in the spirit of “do something that scares you”, I conquered one of my fears today.

We are having a heat wave in Cape Town at the moment (it is topping 35 degrees as I write this). Today was one of those glorious days with no wind and an enveloping, baking heat. One of those days where the only sensible place to be is at the beach (or in a freezer).

We went to the beach. And the beach was p.a.c.k.e.d. Normally I would sit and envy all the people swimming in the waves. I would get my toes wet, but not much more. Not wanting to expose my white wobbly bits, I would have sat on the sidelines, wishing I was out in the water.

Today, I thought about it, and then threw caution to the wind. I stripped down to the white wobblies and waded out into the water. In front of a p.a.c.k.e.d. beach.

***There’s the wind, and there’s caution flying in it***

Those waves in the photo up there? … I swam in those waves. And it was freezing. And it made my arms and legs numb.

And it was wonderful.

I hope you still feel small when you stand beside the ocean,
Whenever one door closes I hope one more opens,
Promise me that you’ll give faith a fighting chance,
when you get the choice to sit it out or dance.

Dance….  , I hope you Dance!

Postcard from the Edge

To all my readers… here is a little love from me to you – wish you were here!

Paradise Found

This is what is 50 metres (not a word of a lie) away from our holiday house. You walk up a sand dune and this is the view as you get to the top.

The beach was rather crowded though – looking to the right…

looking to the left… (that’s only nanee and pop down there)

And Adam…

This is where I was swimming.

Check my photo blog for a real sunset photo…

p.s. don’t ask me where we are – I’m not giving away my secrets!

Bah Humbug

5 Jan

So today was back to work for me today. BAH. I am exhausted after my festive season. Comes from having a birthday just after New Year. While everyone else is recovering, my party is still in full swing. So I bumped back to reality with a thud this morning. Not that today was all bad. I got to take some photos of the orchids in my office. Go Look Dammit!!

This afternoon Adam was pleading/whining to go to the beach. And I was so glad we did because we had SUCH fun!! Poor kid was soaked to the bone (because Mommy forgot the swimsuit). The water was heavenly – the warmest I have ever felt it – and there were so many people swimming and frolicking I imagined myself back on holiday!!

Adam was wet up to his armpits and would have waded deeper if Mommy would have let him. He loved jumping in the shallow waves. (check out the soggy nappy down to his knees).

I just liked this photo so I thought I would add it. I just like it, okay!

I don’t think that I will ever get this child to smile properly again. Everytime he sees me pointing the camera at him, he stands back, poses and “smiles” (Adam smile = squish up the right eye, pull up the nose and grimmace).
