Twas the Night Before Christmas

28 Dec

>>> and that fun we had!!

As much fun as we have on Christmas Day itself, I think my favourite day is Christmas Eve. With all the anticipation and magic in the air – I absolutely love it!

I usually spend the day running around finishing off all my handmade gifts and doing last minute cooking/baking/making (usually muttering to myself “never again”)… And this year was no different. This year I even decided to make pizza (from scratch, dough and yeast and all) for our christmas eve dinner. As usual, everyone gathered at my place for what I call Operation Reindeer Watch. We obsessively watch and listen for reindeer all evening. Watching the light fade, squinting into the sky to see lights and straining our ears to hear bells.

Here is the lounge – ready to impress Santa with all Adam’s handmade decorations

So excited!!!

We sprinkle reindeer food outside for the reindeer (with sparkles in it so that they can find it easily!). Note the t-shirt!

As darkness descends, we listen for sleighbells and run from the front garden to the back garden trying to spot the reindeer. Finally Santa flies overhead and drops some small presents in the garden (unfortunately we were in the front garden so we just missed seeing Father Christmas and the reindeer… maybe next year). But such excitement to run around the garden finding scattered presents…

Just enough time to have some fun with Christmas Sparklers.

And then it’s time to decorate a table for Father Christmas. Last year Mommy decorated the table beautifully and Father Christmas got good wine and tasty goodies. This year all the decoration and food selection was up to Adam. so Santa got juice, chips, chocolate and a selection of toys to play with…

A last few things… a last minute checklist for Father Christmas

and a magic key to make sure he can get into the house

and we’re all ready for our special visitor!!!
